E-CAM

Eco-Friendly Circular Advanced Materials & Additive Manufacturing Lab

About us

Welcome to the Eco-Friendly Circular Advanced Materials & Additive Manufacturing (E-CAM) Lab, located within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University. Led by Dr. Ramona Fayazfar, E-CAM is dedicated to advancing sustainable innovation at the intersection of materials science, additive manufacturing, and the circular economy.

Our lab develops environmentally responsible materials and scalable methodologies to enable the on-demand 3D printing of recyclable, high-performance, and circular products. By tackling urgent supply chain disruptions and climate challenges, E-CAM empowers engineers and researchers to design next-generation parts using eco-friendly materials and advanced manufacturing techniques—working hand-in-hand to fuel a greener, healthier planet and address critical energy and sustainability challenges across sectors, from the built environment to life-saving medical advancements and clean energy technologies.

At the heart of our mission is the integration of sustainable additive manufacturing with sustainability, circular materials, and advanced material design. Our research focuses on:

  • Bioaugmentation of Circular Materials: Enhancing waste and recycled materials with bio-based modifiers to improve performance and sustainability.

  • Development of Recyclable and Sustainable Feedstocks: Creating printable formulations from waste, bio-based, and hybrid resources tailored for additive manufacturing.

  • Processing–Property Interactions: Investigating how formulation and process parameters influence final physico-chemical, mechanical, thermal, and microstructural properties.

  • Enhanced and Tailored Material Properties: Incorporating targeted fillers and additives to enhance properties and performance.

E-CAM combines experimental and computational approaches to accelerate the development of eco-friendly, low-carbon, and carbon-negative solutions. Our commitment to using waste, recycled, and bio-based resources within circular manufacturing systems defines who we are.

Circularity is not just a goal—it’s the foundation of everything we do as part of our journey toward a net-zero future.
